Plumbing Leaks

Your plumbing system is a huge part of your daily life and it may have increased usage with
" back to school" activities such as , extra laundry, more showers, garbage disposal,  and disposing of your home’s waste water. One very common issue with plumbing systems is leaks.
How can homeowners tell if their plumbing system has a leak?  There are a few common signs that you should look for that might indicate that you have a leak in your home. Give AAA City Plumbing a call (704)544-1909 if you notice any of the following:

  • Pipe leaks– Obviously, if you hear running water in your home when there aren’t any appliances using it then there’s something else that’s using the water. It could be a leak in one of your pipes. It could be somewhere in your ceiling or in your basement or in your home’s walls.
  • Toilets – Another common fixture that can cause your water to run constantly is the toilet. If you hear water running in your home when no other appliances are on you may want to check your toilets. It could be that the flapper is loose or that the chain from the flush handle is too tight so that the flapper isn’t sealing properly. This will allow water to leak from the tank into the bowl which will cause the tank to need to refill constantly.
  • Slab leak – One sign of a slab leak is water that is constantly running. Slab leaks are commonly caused because of bad installation of the copper water lines. If there are any dents in the copper water pipes then they can wear out over time and cause pin hole leaks that eventually cause huge damage.
  • Water main leak – Your home has a main water line that comes in from the street and carries all of the water that comes into your home. If this pipe starts to leak then it could cause you to hear the sound of constantly running water in your home. Also be on the lookout for any soggy patches of ground around your yard or home.
